The Space:
Nestled in the 500-year-old historic Spanish colonial city of Old San Juan, Tropical Oasis is the ideal basecamp to explore Old San Juan's history, restaurants, shopping, and nightlife. This is a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment. It also has a direct entrance and access to the Spanish-style courtyard building. It remains with its original beautiful old colonial-style charm. The location is ideal for those looking to be close to the action in Old San Juan, next to restaurants, a plaza, and all that you need to see in this beautiful historic city. The suite comfortably sleeps 3 adults in a queen bed and a twin bed on the loft. This is a historic building in a 400-year-old city, and as a result, it has original, distressed floors throughout. The property has a water backup and electrical system in case of any water or power outage. During the day, the apartment runs 100% on renewable energy.
PLEASE NOTE: This apartment is unsuitable for children under 16 and elderly guests. The apartment has an architectural feature that includes stairs without handrails and a loft overlooking the living room without handrails. Any guest that reserved this unit automatically accepts responsibility for any accidents that may occur in the stairway or loft.
LIVING AREAS
As soon as you enter Tropical Oasis you are welcomed by Spanish-style double doors, high ceilings, hardwood accents, and beautiful traditional colonial charm, which are all traditional of Old San Juan design. The layout encompasses a spacious living room and a separate kitchen. The living room isdirectly beside the kitchen. The living room has two comfortable reading chairs and a flat-screen TV. There is also a washer & dryer in the unit.
SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS
Tropical Oasis has one bedroom style loft that comfortably sleeps3 adults located next to the kitchen. The comfortable bedroom has a queen bed, air conditioning, and access to a full bathroom. The bedroom is appointed with fresh linens for a good night's sleep. It also has a full closet and fan. There is a twin-size bed in the mezzanine area.
KITCHEN
Tropical Oasis'scomfortable kitchen is equipped with a stovetop, microwave, coffee maker, blender, fridge, and stocked with everything you would need for an extended stay. The open-style kitchen has a bistro-style table that sits 2 guests.
LOCATION
Staying in Old San Juan is a truly unique experience filled with charm and character. From the property, you can comfortably walk anywhere within Old San Juan. The apartment is located on one of the quieter streets but still steps away from all the action. We recommend taking a cab from the airport and using Uber or taxi while you stay at Old San Juan. Renting a car is not necessary unless you are planning on road tripping. This is a truly walkable location with everything you need a short walk away. The apartment does not include parking. Nonetheless, there are convenient parking lots close to the apartment.
There are many things to do in the surrounding areas, here are some of our favorites, all within walking distance:
Explore the El Morro Fort. There are daily tours of the fort and the large green areas have spectacular ocean views. Take a tour, have a picnic, and fly a kite. This is a must-do.
Explore the iconic Calle San Sebastian nightlife. There is a large assortment of bars on this strip which is a favorite among locals on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
Breakfast at “La Bombonera”. This is a Puerto Rican landmark well known for its locally inspired breakfast and pastries.
Savor Stuffed Avocado. Healthy and "trendy" spot where you can create your own avocado bowl.
Take a stroll around “Paseo La Princesa”, a waterfront walkway which you can start off at El Morro and finish the walk with a rum tasting at Princesa Gastrobar at the end of the trail.
GETTING AROUND
This property does not include parking. If staying within the general San Juan/Metro area, we recommend moving around via Uber. If you decide to rent a car, there are various paid parking garages around Old San Juan - pricing varies as some charge by the hour and others have a flat rate.
AMENITIES
West Indies strives to deliver top-notch service and amenities to guarantee our guests feel at home while visiting our properties. All of our properties are outfitted with freshly laundered bed linens and towels. We provide 2 bath towels per guest and 1 beach towel per guest. Our properties typically include at least 2 beach chairs and an ice cooler.
West Indies provides the disposable amenities necessary to get your vacation off to a comfortable start. These amenities include 1 set of hotel size soaps and shampoos per bathroom, 3 garbage bags, 1 roll of paper towel, 2 rolls of toilet paper per bathroom, 1 dish soap, 1 dish sponge, and a small amount of laundry detergent. We do not provide unlimited disposable amenities. It is your responsibility to review what is included in the property and stock with whatever else may be needed for the duration of your stay.
HOUSE RULES
Check-in time is at 4:00 pm
Check-out time is at 11:00 am
NO SMOKING: Smoking is strictly prohibited. A smoking fee of $500 will be charged if violated.
NO PETS:No pets are allowed at any time. A $300 fine will be charged if violated and you will be expelled from the property.
Building quiet hours are from 10:00 pm to 8:00 am. Please keep noise levels down during these hours out of respect to the neighbors.
The host will not pay for a hotel, vacation rental, or transportation expenses incurred because of an interruption in water or electrical service. If water or electricity is interrupted for more than 3 hours, guests have the option of canceling their reservation and requesting a refund for the nights not used. Under no circumstances will we refund consumed nights.
All bookings are contingent on signing a short-term rental agreement that will be sent via email. It must be signed within 48 hours of booking or before entering the property, whichever happens first.
Maximum occupancy of 3 adults. This includes visitors.
Max. occupancy is strictly enforced and exceeding it may result in immediate cancellation of booking or being expelled from the property.
Towels and linens must only be used for their intended purpose. Do not stain them with food, grease, or any other substance. Do not use towels to clean up any mess. Stained towels/linens will be charged.
Do not hang towels from thewindows. A $100 fine may be applied if you break this rule.
