This beautiful house sits in an acre of tropical gardens and looks out over English Harbour through the tops of the trees. The house and pool are particularly child friendly with a gate from the house to the pool which can be kept closed. The pool also has a large extra shallow area for kids to play. The house is ideal for large groups or family getaways and has high speed fibre optic internet. Turtle Bay is quiet but only 10 minutes from the beaches, bars and nightlife of English Harbour.
The space
Farside House is a very large and spacious house and consists of a large open plan modern kitchen and living space which opens onto a large veranda with dining table and sofa and chairs. The house enjoys wonderful breezes and is designed to let the cool breeze blow through it. There is only one glass window. All of the others (other than the living area) are screened for mosquitoes and have shutters that can be left open to allow the air through. We have ceiling fans in all the rooms and in the winter we provide blankets because it can get cool. Five big 'floating' steps lead to the stunning architect designed pool and pool house where there is another large dining table, BBQ and seating area. The pool is unique in its design and offers a good length for fitness swimming as well as a large chill area for relaxing next to the wide steps which is also a fabulous space for children to play and learn to swim. Please note that there is a gate between the house and the pool which can be kept closed to keep children safe. We have grandchildren so this has been an important consideration to us.
The main master bedroom has a stunning walk in dressing room and huge open air shower room and is on the main (upper) floor of the house. Downstairs there are are two large double bedrooms with their own shower rooms and in between a large bedroom with twin beds. A fifth bedroom is also located on the upper floor and adjacent to that are another two single beds if needed.
The house sleeps six adults and four children very comfortably.
As a whole the house is very private and secluded. There are neighbours but they are very much hidden behind the trees. We have amazingly fast fiber optic broadband which is very unusual in Antigua. Also, a flat screen TV with Apple TV system is in the living room if you find you’re in the mood for a movie.
There is a separate cottage that sleeps two people (one bedroom) in the garden that can be rented separately.
We want potential guests to be aware that services and facilities are not always reliable in Antigua which is still a third world country. We do our best to have everything operating as it should but the climate is unkind and things break and it is not always possible to have things fixed immediately. The house has solar panels which provide all of the power during the daytime so guests do not suffer the terrible power outages that other villas experience. However, water can be short during the dry season (January to June) and guests are asked to be considerate when showering. Our house manager lives nearby and is there to help out and a gardener and housekeeper come in once or twice a week. There is no daily maid service although this can be arranged if required but will be charged.
